THE STAGE / B110
DESCRIPTION
This is our largest event space, ideal for teaching, social gatherings, and workshops. The area is highly adaptable, featuring over 120 stackable chairs, 15 foldable tables, and a movable stage platform measuring 2x8m. Recent updates include acoustic panels on the walls, enhancing the room’s acoustics and making it even better for social events.
AV equipment is standard Aalto issue, operated via intuitive touch panels. Lighting is flexible, controlled through both room lights and regular dimmers for the ceiling fixtures. For a bit of flair, our event lights can be adjusted via an iPad interface at the back of the room, allowing you to set the mood with various color themes at the touch of a button.
Additionally, curtains can be adjusted using a panel at the entrance doors to provide extra acoustic dampening and manage daylight exposure.

FAQ
Is there other furniture in the space other than listed?
Oh yes, we’ve got some high tables and a few cozy armchairs scattered around. Fair warning though, they sometimes wander off to other spaces depending on where they’re needed most. Plus, our stage area boasts a sleek transparent laptop stand complete with an HDMI extension cable for a no-mess tech setup.
Can we order catering?
Absolutely! We’re big fans of MAU-KAS. They’re familiar with our spaces, whip up delicious food, and deliver top-notch service. Click here to check out their offerings. And guess what? There’s a catering room right next to The Stage to make managing your munchies a breeze.
I am not Aalto Staff. I don’t have access to the building for my event. What to do?
No panic! We can hand you the keys to the kingdom. Just swing by the Viima building during working hours on weekdays to pick them up. Even better, inform us beforehand when picking up the keys, so we know to expect you. Remember to mention this little key exchange when you book the space.
I have guests coming in when the Viima building is closed. Can I leave the front door open?
Let’s keep it closed, shall we? Instead, why not appoint a friendly face to greet and let in your guests? You could also leave a contact number on the door—just anything but propping it open. We have a vigilant security guard who isn’t shy about shutting things down if needed. Let’s keep the party polite!
Can we serve alcohol?
In Viima we generally have a ‘no alcohol’ -policy as in all of Aalto University’s premises, though exceptions are possible with good justification and proper security adjustments. If this is something you have planned, for example in the form of welcoming drinks or drinks with dinner, let us know and we can see if it’s possible! Just a heads up: tipsy antics or shenanigans in university buildings are a no-go.
Can we stream our event?
Stream away! We’ll provide the instructions, but you’ll want to designate a tech-savvy teammate to handle the setup. The space is equipped with a camera to capture all the action and mics to catch every word. You’ll choose whether to broadcast the live feed, projector visuals, or what the camera sees. Just bring a laptop loaded with your favorite streaming software. Both Windows and Mac users can breathe easy—our gear plays nice with both.
Can I connect external mixer audio source?
Certainly, you can. Any device connected through HDMI will transmit the audio signal. The sound from whatever is displayed on the screen will take precedence. Additionally, there are two XLR (3-pin) input jacks available, left channel and right channel. These are situated in the rack and labeled as VMIX in.
Can I get sound out from the room PA system?
Certainly, you can do that. The system includes two XLR jacks labeled VMIX OUT for both the left and right channels. The output will provide a summed audio signal from the space, pre-fader and post-DSP. This means that any volume adjustments made in the room will not affect the gain of the outgoing signal. However, if a device is muted within the room, it will also be excluded from the output signal.
What is the internet situation?
We’re wired and wireless! You can connect to Aalto Open, Eduroam, or Aalto networks. If you need a rock-solid connection, ask George about our wired options. Speed demons, rejoice: select internet sockets offer blazing-fast 1000/1000Gb speeds. Locations in the table are as if you are looking towards the stage platform from the back of the room.
